What is MYC?

Music for Young Children is a program developed by Frances Balodis for the purpose of providing a quality musical education for young children.  Each week, children meet in small groups of their own age category, accompanied by an adult, for 45 minutes to an hour and fifteen minutes (depending on the age and program). Children in the MYC program learn to read, play and compose their own music - skills which expand their problem-solving skills, memory skills, concentration and focus, self-expression, and self-confidence.

A huge variety of musical activities are explored at each lesson, ensuring kids never get bored!

Pearl Piano is pleased to offer two MYC streams, Sunrise (ages 2 to 3) and Sunshine (ages 3 to 4).

Meet Our Sunrise Teacher : Liz Couture

I love to teach children because they have such a huge desire to learn new things!  When children are put in a enjoyable and exciting environment, they learn something while having fun and they truly grasp so much more of what they're being taught.  They have so much enthusiasm that it rubs off on everybody around them.  That's why I love teaching the MYC®  program.

My goal as a teacher is to inspire the children to love the wonder of music. I would like to give the students memorable experiences of not just playing the piano, but also of singing, of composing, and of developing rhythm in the body so that it comes naturally at the piano.

My philosophy is to use our time well, to remain organized and communicate effectively to parents, and to use rewards and incentives when we successfully meet our learning goals. Everyone receives positive energy and respect and many smiles!

I can’t believe how lucky and blessed I am to share my love of teaching music with the families in my community. We will create many more memories in Richmond Hill, Ontario at Music for Young Children!

Pearl Piano and Couture’s Keyboard Conservatory are pleased to announce they are collaborating their extensive teaching and piano skills to offer parents of young children an introduction to music lessons. The Music for Young Children (MYC) program is well established in Richmond Hill and has been offering piano music group classes for 25 years, but this newest Sunrise 1 level and is for boys and girls even younger, aged 2 and a half to 3 and a half years of age.

Sunrise 1 lessons are in blocks of 10 lessons per term for a child and adult, siblings welcome. They include singing, rhythm and movement, musical terminology, crafts and lots of creative and fun activities.  Rhythm is taught using a Teddy Bear theme and mascot friends such as Buddy Croak Froggie and Mellow Yellow Doggie encourage the children to participate and guide them through the activities in the classes.

This program gives parents a chance to see whether their children would be ready for Sunshine 1 (age 3-4), Sunbeams 1 (age 4-5) introduction to piano in a group environment, and really allows children to love music through its fun teaching methods. High quality materials such as a child’s backpack, CDs with songbooks, rhythm instruments, and puppets are all included in the registration fee, and TRY-IT classes prior to the class are available based on demand and schedule.
